Council on Aging

Mission

The mission of the Southbridge Council on Aging Board of Directors is to link needs with services and to promote wellness programs that educate and empower senior citizens to maintain their quality of life. An additional mission is to raise community consciousness concerning the services, programs, and activities that are offered at the Casaubon Senior Center, located at 153 Chestnut Street, Southbridge, MA.

Services

Services Coordinated by the Council on Aging and Senior Center:

  • Social Events and Classes
    • Pickleball https://playtimescheduler.com/login.php Find local pickleball leagues and sign up to play.
    • Exercise program w/Jenn Reynolds Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9am-10am (Except Sept 22, 26)
    • Chair Yoga w/Charice Kalis Tuesday, Sept. 12 & 26 10am-11am                                                      Filling on for regular exercise program on Friday, Sept. 29th 9am-10am
    • Brain Games held Wednesday from 10am to 10:45am 
    • Scrabble held Wednesday from 1pm to 3pm
    • Senior Bingo held Friday from Noon to 2:30pm (Card Sales start at 11:30am)
    • Latino program held Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 9 to Noon.
    • Knitting Group Friday's at 10:00AM
  • Special Events
    • UMass Extension Nutrition Program - Every Thursday in September 12:00-1:00   Please register to ensure we have enough samples/supplies                                                       September 7th - Whole Grain Twist– Add whole grains to your meal                    September 14th - Lower Limbo Now– Choose lower-fat foods & limit added sugar.
      September 21st - Kitchen Calypso – Save money shopping and meal planning.
      September 28th - Fruit and Veggie Salsa – Eat a colorful variety of fruits & veggies.
    • Movie Matinee Thursday, September 7th at 1:30PM "The Lost City" Starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.  Popcorn will be available.                                                     “Reclusive author Loretta Sage writes about exotic places in her popular adventure novels that feature a handsome cover model named Alan.     • Coffee & Conversation Presented by Southbridge Credit Union                                  Monday, September 11th at 10AM - Join Christina Abbotts & Sarah Clarke from Southbridge Credit Union and learn about fraud, scams and how to safely share your private information.
    • Senior Luncheon Tuesday, September 19th 12:00 - Baked Ziti $5                                            Please register by Wednesday, September 13th.
    • Arts & Crafts Tuesday, September 26th 1:00PM Halloween Witch Wreath $5                Please register by Friday, Sept 22nd.

  • Annual flu shots
  • Assistance for Seniors with Medicare, Medicaid, and open enrollment Insurance issues
  • SHINE services, including help with all health insurance questions, prescription drug plans, Social Security, Medicare and Mass Health
