OBTAINING RECORDS FROM POLICE
DEPARTMENT
The Southbridge Police Department policy on providing reports to
individuals who have been involved
in accidents, arrests or incidents includes the person coming to the
police department and filling
out a request form.
REMINDER: Depending on the content, not all reports are
available to the public. That will be
determined by the records officer at time of request.
FIREARMS LICENSING
FEES
- Over 70 years of age - no fee required for all licenses.
- $100 for license to carry Class A & B, machine gun and firearms
ID.
- $25 for FID restricted (chemical propellant) - no fee for renewal.
All applications for renewals and new licenses are turned in by
appointment only.
Appointments are done on Wednesday or Thursday nights every week from
7:00pm to
9:00pm at 10 minute intervals. Appointments can be made by calling the
Southbridge
Police Department at (508) 764-5420 and speaking with the desk officer.
MIRCS - also known as the Massachusetts Instant Record Checks System is
now in place.
This allows for all licensing to be processed through the state
computer system
at the police station. Pictures for the licenses are done by web-cam
(no more
passport photos) and fingerprinting is electronic. First time
applicants for LTC's
and FID's will be ink fingerprinted and must also provide a Firearms
Safety Course
Certificate at the time of application. Due to everything being
computerized,
paper applications are no longer necessary. A Massachusetts drivers
license must
be presented at the time of application. You must be 21 years of age to
obtain an
LTC and applicants age 15-17 can obtain an FID if accompanied by a
parent or
legal guardian.
Licenses now come in the standard registry sized license style (just
like your drivers license) and are good for 6 years. From time of
application to physically obtaining
your license is approximately 4 weeks.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Officer Duane
Ledoux:
Monday through Friday - 7:00am-3:00pm at (508) 764-5420.
